Sanitation in Khulna slum areas is generally inadequate and unsafe, characterized by shared, unhygienic latrines and poor waste management, which poses significant health risks. Most residents use common, often unclean, latrines, and untreated wastewater is frequently discharged directly into nearby water bodies. The WaSH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) Program is a continued service- oriented program which has been implemented with internal and external donor funding. ADAMS distributed hundreds of sanitary latrines and installed more than 1,000 tube-wells to ensure access to safe water for the most vulnerable and affected families in urban and rural areas.
